The first numbered Pokemon sequels – Pokemon Black 2 and Pokemon White 2 – are only two months away from their Japanese debut, and the news has already started pouring in. Below you’ll find the first Japanese trailer for the titles, which briefly shows off some of the new areas and opponents players can look forward to seeing.
We already know the game takes place two years after the events of the original Pokemon Black and White, a time when drastic changes have overtaken the the Unova region (allowing for some new and updated locations for players to explore). The video shows the Unova map mostly covered in ice, and also seems to suggest Snivy, Tepig and Oshawott will remain the starters for these sequels.
The trailer also showed off the game’s new main characters (below), a few new locations, the new water gym and an underwater tunnel. As posted on Serebii, new screenshots have also been released for Black 2 and White 2. You can see a few of them here, but be sure to check out the rest in our official Pokemon Black 2 and White 2 image gallery. Please note that these screenshots are blown up, and will look considerably clearer within the actual games.
First details for Pokemon Black 2 and White 2 emerged late last week, including the fact that players will be facing off against new gym leaders and a new rival (the dude with the incredibly spiky hair 36 seconds into the video).
You can see what appears to be another of the game’s new main gym leaders in the screenshot above, as well as highlighted in the trailer.
Here we see a new building, though what it contains remains a mystery. Below you’ll find a first taste of Black Kyurem in action, going up against a Serperior.
In this next image we see an underwater tunnel, complete with a Mantine floating overhead.
And finally, we have a screenshot of a double battle between four Pokemon from prior generations. It has already been confirmed that Pokemon Black 2 and White 2 will feature monsters from past generations early on. This differs from the original Pokemon Black and White, which only let players encounter new monsters until after they beat the Elite Four.
Pokemon Black 2 and Pokemon White 2 are set to release in Japan on June 23. As of now the games are still only confirmed for a Fall 2012 release here in the States. For more on all things Pokemon, keep it here on IGN.
